BRISTOL -- Farmington police have arrested 39-year-old Jimmie Shoemaker-Gonzalez, of Avon, for a list of crimes committed before crashing a police cruiser into a Bristol diner.
The charges were served Wednesday at Hartford Superior Court. Shoemaker-Gonzalez was charged with attempted and completed robberies and vehicle theft.
On Jan 12, Shoemaker-Gonzalez committed a carjacking in Hartford. He then committed another carjacking by knifepoint in Farmington. He later stole a police cruiser after Bristol officers were able to track down the vehicle he stole from Farmington.
Shoemaker-Gonzalez was the only one inside the stolen car when police found it. Officers drew their handguns and ordered the suspect to surrender. According to the police report, Shoemaker-Gonzalez then backed up the Toyota and drove forward before “getting his vehicle stuck,” resulting in him fleeing on foot.
Police said in the report that a foot chase ensued before Shoemaker-Gonzalez stole a police cruiser.
Shoemaker-Gonzalez drove about two and a half miles before crashing the cruiser into the front of Palma’s Diner, located at 100 Stafford Ave. No injuries were reported in the diner crash.
