Broad Street scene

BRISTOL — Police are investigating after a body was found on Broad Street Friday afternoon.
According to police, the man’s body was in the area of 534 Broad St., shortly before 2 p.m. An eyewitness who saw the body said a gun was found near the dead man, but police have not confirmed this.
Two girls who were at Automotive Plus, which sits across the street from where the man was found, spotted the body on the ground, behind a guardrail. The automotive business was busy preparing for a fundraiser to benefit those recently displaced during a fire in Bristol.
According to Casey Norton of Terryville, he was among multiple people who saw the body after the two girls spotted him.
“Her and her friend were leaving in a car and they saw a person on the side of the road that they thought was sleeping, so they went up to give him a bottle of water and she noticed something was wrong with him,” Norton said.
The women then frantically approached Norton, who works at Automotive Plus, and his supervisor. Norton and his boss then ran over to the body.
“We found the guy, we checked his pulse or tried to and he was ice cold,” Norton said.
Police on Friday said they are investigating the incident as an untimely death.
“It’s early in the investigation, but it looks to be an untimely death,” said police Capt. Richard Guerrera.
Guerrera noted that it appears to be an isolated incident that would not cause any danger to the public.
Police have not released the identity of the man, as his family members are still being notified of his death.
During the investigation, Broad Street was closed between King and Emmett streets until about 4 p.m., police said.
The fundraiser that was scheduled Friday at Automotive Plus was meant to benefit those displaced during a fire at a home on Jerome Avenue last week. The fundraiser has been rescheduled for Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
