BRISTOL – Stafford Elementary School’s “Singing Principal” Latanya Farrell will perform at a block party celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Waterbury's Palace Theater on Friday, June 10.

Farrell is vocalist, songwriter and band leader of the Latanya Farrell Band. She said that she so is eager to perform that "excitement is an understatement."

"I am thrilled to be celebrating a very big birthday performing at the Historic Place Theater," she said. "I am ready to bring the party for sure."

Farrell said that she will perform "a little bit of everything."

"I love to take covers of all genres and make them my own," she said. "I am encouraging folks to bring their dancing shoes."

Farrell said that she loves the "positive energy" of performing live.

"Rhythms and melodies are flowing between and through us," she said. "We share and mirror the feelings as we engage one another with nods, smiles, clapping and roof raising," she said. "Performing live brings me so much joy and happiness. Performing live bring connections."

Farrell encouraged people to come out and enjoy the show.

"I will be playing with amazingly talented musicians who are also very close friends," she said. "I'm going to party like it's my birthday, literally."

Outside of her band, Farrell was appointed as the "happy and proud principal" of Stafford Elementary School in 2020. She first came to Stafford Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher in 1995.

"I love, love, love my days at Stafford Elementary School," she said. "I feel like an auntie, having the many children of my former students. It's so rewarding serving kiddos and families. I get to sing to them every day during morning announcements. It all comes back to connections and positivity. Just call me the singing principal."

The block party, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 10 on the 100 Block of East Main Street in Waterbury, will include a variety of food and live music. There will also be a laser light show and dance party at 9 p.m.

Additional entertainment will include "The Zoo", Nicole Zuraitis and Eran Troy Danner.
