The annual Congressional Baseball Game took place at Nationals Park on Wednesday night and Connecticut senator Chris Murphy continued his tradition of wearing the jersey of a local baseball team.
Murphy donned a New Britain Bees jersey and hat for this year’s contest that pits democrats and republicans against each other on the diamond to raise money for various charities in the Washington D.C. area.
“I’ve been obsessed with baseball since I was a kid in Little League,” Murphy said. “The Congressional Baseball Game is a chance for Democrats and Republicans to come together around the love of the game and raise money for a good cause. Over the years I’ve had the chance to wear the jersey of many great Connecticut teams, and this year I was proud to rep the New Britain Bees. Bees’ games are a great night out for families and we are so excited to have them in the Hardware City.”
This was the first Congressional baseball game in two years after the 2020 game was canceled because of the pandemic. The Republicans reopened the 112-year old tradition with a tight victory, winning 13-12 behind a two-run home run from Florida representative Greg Steube.
