SOUTHINGTON — Firefighters early Thursday put out a tractor trailer fire at a local truck stop, containing the flames to the cab of the vehicle and preventing it from extending to hazardous materials in the freight area.

The fire department around 7:30 a.m. said via its Twitter account that units were en route to the T/A Travel Center, at 1875 Meriden-Waterbury Tpke., for the fire. The person who called the incident in said the truck was carrying hazardous materials.

Around 7:47 a.m., firefighters said the fire had been contained.

Firefighters later said the blaze was contained to the cab of the vehicle, which was left with serious burn damage. The freight area of the truck appeared to be relatively unharmed.

The specifics of the materials inside the truck were not immediately available.

No injuries were reported.
