The Gators are preparing to welcome the Huskies again.
The University of Florida men’s basketball team announced its non-conference schedule Wednesday, a slate that includes a Dec. 6 matchup with UConn in Gainesville, Florida. That game had been, and to some degree still is, in doubt because of Connecticut’s COVID-19 travel restrictions.
UConn leads the all-time series between the teams 3-1, and won 63-59 on Jan. 3, 2015, in its only previous trip to the UF campus.
UConn has won the last three matchups with the Gators, including a triumph in the 2014 Final Four. The Huskies’ only loss to Florida came in a 1994 NCAA Tournament in Miami.
The Huskies’ non-conference schedule, which has been thrown into flux due to the coronavirus, has not been announced but indications are it will include at least two games against in-state opponents, likely Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State.
UConn is slated to play Dec. 2 and 3 at Mohegan Sun in a three-team event that includes BYU, USC and Vanderbilt - in something of a coincidence Florida will be there for a two-game event the week before.
The Huskies are also planning to play a 20-game Big East schedule in what will be their first campaign back in the conference they helped found in 1979.
