The UConn football team’s Sept. 21 game against Indiana will kick off at noon, the school announced Monday. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

UConn (1-1), which lost to Illinois 31-23 on Saturday, is idle this week. Indiana (2-0), a 52-0 winner over Eastern Illinois on Saturday, faces Ohio State this weekend.

The two will get together the following week at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.

Learning curve

As impressive as his collegiate debut was, UConn quarterback Jack Zergiotis did commit three turnovers in the loss to Illinois. He had two interceptions and a fumble, but head coach Randy Edsall said he was fairly certain the freshman from Montreal would adjust quickly.

“Those turnovers he had? He’ll learn from them. Just take what they give you,” Edsall said.

Making progress?

The Huskies aren’t ready to celebrate a loss but there were plenty of signs from the Illinois game that things could be different than last season when they lost all of their FBS games.

“I think that puts a lot of confidence into us. We know we can play with anyone out there,” tight end Jay Rose said. “(Saturday) really showed that, I think. We’re going to take this and move forward.”

The UConn defense isn’t the punching bag it was a season ago, at least, when it gave up a record amount of yards and points.

“I definitely see us coming together. We made a lot of plays today, forced a lot of turnovers. We got stops when needed them,” linebacker D.J. Morgan said. “There’s little things we have to clean up that will help us in the long run but for the most part we’re coming together really good.”
