BRISTOL – The crowd at St. Paul Catholic High School watched one of Connecticut’s top teams hit, field and pitch their way to a first round Class S State Tournament win. The Falcons scored double digit runs in a huge 22-0 victory over Terryville Tuesday.

It was the mighty Casey Cerruto at bat leading the offense for the St. Paul baseball team. The senior captain went 3-for-3, with four RBI, three runs scored and two home runs. Cerruto blasted a two-run homer in the second inning followed by a solo shot in his next at-bat.

Cerruto wasn’t the only Falcon to knock one out of the park. Starting pitcher Joey Tonnotti was 2-for-2 with a solo homer to center, three RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Ryan Daniels was 1-for-3 with a home run in the third inning, two RBI and two runs scored.

The pitching trio of Tonnotti, Chase Mendela and Logan Rembish threw a combined no-hitter. Starter Tonnotti picked up the win while relievers Mendela and Rembish combined for 13 strikeouts.
