Roundup: Area volleyball teams earn shutouts to kick off the week

HARTFORD – New Britain girls volleyball is one win away from earning a spot in the state tournament, winning 3-0 over Hartford Public Monday night.

The Hurricanes won the three sets 25-11, 25-6 and 25-10. From serve Kasianna Denmark was efficient, racking up 16 service points with eight aces and 10 kills.

Isamarys Rodriguez served 16 points with five aces and Kelly Alape had 20 assists.

Goodwin Tech 3, Terryville 0: Goodwin Tech girls volleyball defeated Terryville 3-0 Monday night.

Goodwin won the three sets 25-6, 25-18 and 25-11 in order.

Maribel Gonzalez had six aces with six kills. Javiellie Merle-Gonzalez tallied nine assists with five digs and three kills to complement her day.

Rachael Astacio, Trinity Chambers and Ava Hernandez had three aces each for Goodwin.

Alxa Harnish had three assists and two aces for Terryville.

Southington 3, Avon 0: Southington girls volleyball rolled past Avon, winning 3-0.

The Blue Knights won 25-21, 26-24 and 25-10 across the three sets.

Gabby Ferreira led in kills with 12, adding seven digs and two aces to her night.

Haley Weiner led in assists with 18 while Megan Smith chipped in 11 assists.

Cami Wessels (five kills, two aces), Haley Zembruski (three kills), Adriana Palmieri (eight digs) and emma Pfanzelt (seven digas) all played a factor in the shutout win for Southington.

Bristol Central 3, Plainville 0: Bristol Central girls volleyball blanked Plainville Monday night, winning 3-0.

The Rams won 25-12, 25-8 and 25-7, in order, over Plainville.

Maddie Lodovico had eight kills to go with four aces while Olivia Clingan had nine kills with three aces.

Boys soccer

Innovation 5, HMTCA 0: Innovation scored five times in its win over HMTCA, earning a shutout at 5-0.

The Ravens had four goals from Waseem Alsafari and one from Jairo Sibrian. In goal, Arnez Falcon stopped seven shots to keep a clean sheet.
