After a week off since its last game, the Innovation boys basketball team was well rested for its game against Weaver and left with a 45-38 win to improve its record to 5-1.

Senior Gabe Matias was the Ravens leading scorer with 13 points and freshman Amari Cruz provided a spark for his team in the second half and finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Innovation returns to the court Friday for a home game against the Metropolitan Learning Center at 7 p.m.

Terryville 65, Gilbert 54: The Kangaroos extended their winning streak to three games behind 11 fourth-quarter points from Sean O’Donnell.

The teams combined for 17 three-pointers in the game led by five from Gilbert’s Anthony Carfino and three from Terryville’s Dylan Matulis. Dominick Dao also made a triple as part of his 15-point, 13-rebound performance.

The Kangaroos are right back to work Wednesday for a home game against Wamogo.

Wethersfield 72, Berlin 34: The Redcoats struggled to score from the inside against Wethersfield and fell behind big because of it. 21 of their 34 points came from three-point shooting as they only eclipsed 10 points in one quarter.

Michael Ciarcia’s 10 points was the leading effort for Berlin as the team falls to .500. It will travel to Hartford to take on Bulkeley in its next game Friday.

Newington 48, Middletown 44: Newington bounced back from a difficult first quarter to remain undefeated halfway through the season.

Lilly Ferguson’s 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals led a hard-fought effort for Newington against one of the better teams on its schedule. Madison Romanello contributed 10 points and Alexie Armour added eight points and 12 rebounds.

Newington will travel to Meriden on Friday for its next game against Platt at 5:15 p.m.

Wethersfield 40, Berlin 35: The Redcoats trailed by nine entering the fourth quarter and were unable to complete the comeback against Wethersfield.

Rylee Cop led all scorers with 13 points and Alivia Halkias posted 11 points and a game-high six rebounds. Berlin returns to action Friday against Bulkeley/SMSA.

Conard 98, Berlin 88: The Redcoats were unable to pull out the win Tuesday, but still posted a variety of strong times led by sophomore Nathan Snyder. Snyder won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.54) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.70) while also contributing to wins in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

“I'm incredibly proud of the job that our guys did today,” head coach Daniel Thurston said. “We knew that the way we matched up with Conard, there would be key races all across the pool and I thought they really embraced that. We may have come up short on the scoresheet, but I'm taking nothing but positives from today's performances.”

Sophomore Matt Jamrozek notched a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.71 seconds and posted his season-best score of 187.35 to take second place in diving.

Berlin returns to pool March 10 on the road against Newington.
