TERRYVILLE - The Terryville girls soccer coach Brian Rosano was Mr. Rosano as a history teacher at Eli Terry Jr. Middle School. Now he’s coach Rosano to a pair of talented freshmen leading the Kangaroos’ soccer team, Allison Drake and Zoey Zappone.

“They already kind of know what to expect,” Rosano said. “I make it very clear, though, that there’s a difference between Mr. Rosano and coach Rosano. He’s two different guys, but they understand what I’m going to expect from them. It certainly helps with recruiting purposes as well.”

Zappone is already the team’s primary scorer and scored the only goal against Wamogo in the shutout win for the Kangaroos.

“I had her as a middle school student, so to see her as that and then to see her come alive on the field is really a cool experience for us,” Rosano said. “I just hope she continues to grow over the next four years.”

Drake’s performance in goal has impressed Rosano in her first year playing the sport. The shutout against Wamogo was her second straight and she held a strong Northwestern team (3-1-2) to just one goal in a draw.

The freshmen duo may not be learning history anymore in Rosano’s classroom, but they’ll look to be part of history on the field with Rosano over their four years at the high school.
