CIAC rewards local athletes for academic excellence

SOUTHINGTON - The Connecticut Association of Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference honored 384 high school athletes at the 35th annual CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete Banquet Sunday night, with students coming from each of the area high schools.

The Scholar Athlete program recognizes two high school senior student-athletes - one boy and one girl - from each member high school whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievement are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.

The honorees are chosen by the member schools and are submitted to the CIAC with the event being held at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

Bristol Central’s honorees were basketball player Zoe Sinclair and track athlete Pat Kjornrattanawanich.

Bristol Eastern’s honorees were track athlete Maggie Santacroce and soccer and tennis player Thomas Lombardi.

From St. Paul, tennis player Katie Pauloz and football and lacrosse player Christopher Dionne were honored.

For Terryville, softball player Maria Cesare and track and cross country runner Corey Picard were the recipients.
