Sports Roundup: St. Paul girls lacrosse ties program win record with victory over Housatonic

BRISTOL - Just six games into the third season in St. Paul girls lacrosse program history, the Falcons are on a mission.

St. Paul won its fourth game of the season on Thursday afternoon against Housatonic 12-8.

With the win the Falcons tied their program record of four games set last year.

Emma Cretella led St. Paul with seven goals in the game. Greta Panke added three goals as the other Falcons player with multiple goals. Cameron Baston and Maddie Fisher also scored for the up and coming Falcons roster.

BASEBALL

Bristol Eastern 9, Southington 1: The Lancers sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning highlighted by a grand slam from Mac Goulet. Bristol Eastern scored seven of its nine runs in the fourth.

Also in the fourth inning Noah Hickey ripped a double and was hit by a pitch, Jon Pierce singled twice, Carson Sassu singled twice, Dave Bernier had a sac bunt, Cory Fradette singled, Matt D’Amato walked and Josh Nohilly walked.

The Lancers added a pair of runs in the seventh, one run scored on a wild pitch and Goulet singled in a run.

Senior lefty Nohilly tossed six plus innings for the Lancers allowing seven hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out a pair to pick up the victory.

Southington’s Dan Topper forced Nohilly from the game in the seventh with a lead-off single.

Fradette came on to close out the game for Bristol Eastern.

The Lancers finished with 12 hits in the game, three by Pierce and two each by Fradette, Goulet and Sassu. Goulet had 5 RBI.

Bristol Eastern moved to 7-3 and Southington fell to 5-6.

SOFTBALL

Bristol Eastern 10, Glastonbury 3: The Lancers got off to a hot start scoring nine of their 10 runs in the first two innings. Bristol Eastern would let off a little though the rest of the way. Taylor Keegan had a triple and Zoe Lowe had another home run as she continues her strong freshman season. Starting pitcher Erin Girard and the Lancers moved to 7-1.

Simsbury 2, Bristol Central 0: The Rams were only able to manage four hits against Simsbury starter Teagan Hedman.

Simsbury (3-1) scored in the fourth and seventh innings as Peyton Greger threw a seven-hitter for Bristol Central (3-6).

Terryville 26, Crosby 3: The Kangaroos scored 24 runs in the first three innings to run away with the game. Tiffany Pires led the way with 5 RBI for Terryville and had four hits. Amy Ieronimo and Jessica Dupont each added 3 RBI for the Kangaroos.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bristol Eastern 5, Platt 2: The Lancers dropped their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to the Blue Dragons. Danielle Barrington and Alexis Waag would win at No. 3 and No. 4 singles for Bristol Eastern and the Lancers won all their double matches. Kasey Simpson and Kelly Simpson won at No. 1 doubles. Valerie Bouchard and Sophie Johnsky won at No. 2 doubles. Leah Mastroianni and Tina Guo completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 doubles.

BOYS GOLF

Bristol Central 196, New Britain 232: The Rams evened their record at 1-1 for the season with a victory at Pequabuck Golf Club.

Adam Ward and Jacob Nelson led the way for Bristol Central with rounds of 47, while Preston Akerley shot a 48 and Nick Osuch had a 54.

New Britain fell to 1-1.

St. Paul 185, Sacred Heart 193: The Hearts had a pair of co-medalists along with the Falcons Ryne Salius with a score of 43. Jack Vaillancourt and Shea Zaccagnini each shot a 43 for Sacred Heart. It was St. Paul’s depth that proved pivotal. Behind Salius all four golfers had productive rounds. Sam Mazzarelli (47), Matt Raymond (47) and Chris Millerick shot sub-50 scores. Michael Dolce shot a round of 50 to round out St. Paul’s scoring.

Middletown 183, Bristol Eastern 222: The Blue Dragons had three golfers ahead of the first Lancers golfer. Vincent Girzluk (41), Noah Blake (42) and Brennan Maxfield (45) finished with the top three scores on the day for Middletown. Brennan McMahon (48) and Drew Fries (53) had the best day for Bristol Eastern on the course.

GIRLS GOLF

Amity 163, St. Paul 212: All four of Amity’s golfers bested the Falcons. Tess Scejka stood out with a low score of 35, the best of the day. Natalie Millerick and Bella Hamelin each finished with a score of 48 for St. Paul. Sarah Richardson (57) and Jill Kiazim (59) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons.
