BRISTOL - There will be four new varsity coaches in the upcoming spring season for the Bristol area schools.

Bristol Central will have a pair of new coaches. MJ Gissas will be the head coach of the Rams boys lacrosse team, while Sara DeFillippi will be taking over as the Bristol Central girls tennis coach. She graduated from the school in 2011 and went on to attend UConn.

"I'm very excited to be named the new coach,” DeFillippi said. “I played tennis here. It's always been home. My expectations are to improve on what the team did last year. I hope to improve my freshmen and sophomores so when my upperclassmen leave we can still be successful."

Bristol Eastern’s Jesse Gumpert will be the only new coach at the school, heading the sidelines for the Bristol Eastern boys lacrosse team.

Rounding out the new coaches is Elaine Bowman, who will be the St. Paul girls lacrosse coach.

Bowman has played lacrosse since the sixth grade and went on to play for Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.

"She was an assistant coach last year so I certainly expect that to be a smooth transition,” Falcons athletic director David Dennehy said. “She has college experience as a player and is one of the guidance counselors at the school so she has great rapport with the girls. She's going to do a great job."

Terryville will be returning all of its spring coaches from last year.
