With the local schools on break this week, the high school sports schedule is a bit limited but the baseball and softball schedules will ramp up in the week ahead with a number of big matchups including a visit by one of the state’s top ranked softball teams when Southington comes to town to take on Bristol Central on Wednesday afternoon.

The young Rams have struggled a bit after an opening day win and will have their hands full with the Blue Knights who were ranked second in the most recent state poll. Southington has played only one game so far this year and has two challenging games with Rockville and Simsbury before coming to Bristol on Wednesday. Central will also have another tough interdivisional matchup at RHAM on Friday.

Other area softball teams also face some stiff tests in the week ahead. St. Paul softball remains unbeaten after three big wins last week. The Falcons have their biggest challenge of the young season today when they host Seymour in a battle of unbeatens that could go a long way toward settling the NVL championship. St. Paul will travel to Crosby on Wednesday and visit Oxford on Friday.

Bristol Eastern suffered its first loss of the season at Northwest Catholic last week and the 5-1 Lancers will be looking to rebound against a pair of interdivisional foes. Eastern host Simsbury on Wednesday and travels to East Hartford on Friday.

Terryville picked up its first win of the season in its last outing and the Kangaroos will look to continue their winning ways in a busy four-game week. Terryville hosts Shepaug today, travels to Litchfield tomorrow and then hosts Northwestern Thursday and Gilbert on Friday.

The baseball schedule is also a busy one this week with 3-1 St. Paul leading the charge. The Falcons suffered their first loss of the season against Watertown last week and will be out to turn it around today at Seymour which also boasts a 3-1 record. The Falcons host Crosby on Wednesday and take on 6-0 Oxford at home on Friday.

Bristol Eastern has won two in a row after a slow start and faces a tough one at home today against Plainville. The Blue Devils are 3-2 and already own a win over Eastern this season. Eastern will host Glastonbury Wednesday and Tolland on Thursday in a pair of tough interdivisional showdowns.

Bristol Central is off to a 3-1 start on the season and will be looking to add to the win total this week, but it won't be easy as the Rams take on Maloney, Farmington and E.O. Smith, all at home. The Spartans come to town on Tuesday with Farmington on Wednesday and E.O. Smith on Friday.

Terryville is still looking for its first win. The Kangaroos travel to Washington Depot to battle 2-3 Shepaug today, then return home for a match with Litchfield on Tuesday before stepping outside of the Berkshire League for a big matchup with NVL power Watertown in Terryville on Thursday. The Kangaroos finish out a busy week at Gilbert on Friday.

The boys lacrosse schedule is also filled with interleague play this week as both Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern step away from CCC competition while St. Paul takes on three tough opponents. St. Paul is at Northwest Catholic today before hosting Holy Cross under the lights on Wednesday. The Falcons visit Lewis Mills on Thursday.

Central will give its turf field a couple of tests under the lights against non-league opponents. The Rams host Wilbur Cross tomorrow and Farmington Thursday before travelling to Canton for a noon match on Saturday. Eastern takes on Wolcott at home under the lights tonight and travels to Wamogo Wednesday before coming home for the week's only CCC South match against Berlin on Friday afternoon.

The Bristol girls lacrosse co-op has only one match this week. That will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at Bristol Central against Lyman Hall. St. Paul, coming off its first win of the season in the last outing, visits Watertown today and Housatonic on Wednesday before coming home to take on Immaculate on Saturday morning.

The week's track meets will see Bristol Central visiting Platt today, St. Paul traveling to Wolcott and Terryville visiting Housatonic tomorrow.

The week's tennis schedule is limited. Bristol Central's boys host Berlin and the girls travel to Berlin on Friday. Eastern's girls will host RHAM Thursday and the boys will have matches against Rockville today and Rocky Hill on Friday, both at home. St. Paul's girls have the busiest schedule with matches at home against Ansonia today and Woodland on Friday as well as a visit to Watertown on Wednesday.

The only golf on tap this week will be by Terryville when it hosts Wamogo and Shepaug Valley today and will be Harwinton to take on Lewis Mills and Wamogo on Wednesday. Eastern is also set for this week. The Lancers are set for a home match this afternoon against Middletown.
