NEW HAVEN – A Terryville woman was seriously injured on Thursday after state police say she drove the wrong way on Interstate 95 during a head-on collision with a commercial vehicle.

State police identified the wrong-way driver as Nicolle Macao, 20, of Harwinton Avenue in Terryville. Following the crash, which was reported around 2 a.m., she was taken in an ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital for serious injuries.

According to state police, the passenger in Macao’s vehicle, a 19-year-old New Haven resident, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Yale New Haven.

The other driver involved, a 59-year-old Massachusetts man, did not suffer any apparent injuries, state police said.

According to state troopers, Macao, driving south on the northbound side of I-95 in a 2013 Honda CR-V, collided with a commercial truck that was headed north near Exit 50.

State police said the crash is still being investigated, and that charges are pending.
