PLYMOUTH –The Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps has named Kelly Tole as the recipient of the Truman Gustafson PVAC Proud Award for October.

The Truman Gustafson PVAC Proud award is presented monthly to a staff member, board member, crew, business or citizen whom has gone "above and beyond" in service of the community.

Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps (PVAC) Assistant Chief Norm Whitehurst, who nominated Tole to receive the award, said she has been the volunteer with the most hours per year for many years.

"Her dedication to the community has been and always will be outstanding," said Whitehurst. "In her more than a decade of service, she had seen it all. She’s there when the town needs her most. In addition to her added duty as the service’s supply officer, ensuring all our medical equipment is fully stocked and ready to go, she maintains a full-time job. That’s a hard balance but she manages in the best way for all."

Bonnie Doughty-Jenkins, president of the PVAC's board of directors, said that Tole has been a nominee each month since the award was first established in June.

"She is always ready to lend a hand and really is there to help everyone in any way that she can," said Doughty-Jenkins.

The Truman Gustafson PVAC Proud award is named after Truman Gustafson, who was one of the founders of PVAC when it was established in 1968. The Board of Directors meets to decide the October recipient from among nominees.

Past recipients have included Whitehurst, Hilltop Restaurant, Plymouth Oil Service and Alyssa Britt, who saved a life at the Harwinton Avenue group home.

Those who would like to submit a nominee for this monthly award can write to Doughty-Jenkins at PVAC Headquarters, 191 Main St, Terryville, CT 06786. Or, they can email her at the PVAC Board of Directors' new email address, pvacboard@hotmail.com.
