PLYMOUTH – Just over a third of the eligible votes in town turned out to cast a ballot in the recent municipal elections.
According to Town Clerk Barbara Rockwell, out of 8,047 registered voters 2,727 exercised their right to vote for mayor, members of the Town Council, Board of Finance, Board of Education and other town offices. Of those, 80 voted by absentee ballot.
That came out to 34 percent, slightly higher than the usual 28 to 32 percent in a municipal election, Rockwell said.
In comparison, last year’s presidential election drew more than twice as many - 72 percent of registered voters in town.
Rockwell’s records show there are 1,970 registered Republicans in town, 1,885 registered Democrats, and 4,086 unaffiliated voters.
