PLAINVILLE - The Plainville Chamber of Commerce helpd Whiting Motors Used Cars and Repair Shop celebrate its grand opening Thursday.

Owner Tajinder Sehmi said his new business will provide “honest, professional services.”

Sehmi, his wife, Jennifer, and mechanic, Austin Fuori, moved in and began renovations to the building at 195 Whiting St., formerly the home of Car Doctor, three months ago. A soft opening was held on Nov. 23.

In addition to a lounge and office area, the building features seven repair bays, with place to open two more bays for detailing.

So far, Sehmi said, things are going well. He said the town was very helpful in getting his first business started.

“Our customers like that we’re really straightforward with them,” he said. “We explain everything from top to bottom; we’re not trying to rob anyone.”

A truck driver for the past 15 years, Sehmi said working on motor vehicles is his passion and his dream come true.

Several friends and family members were present during Thursday’s ribbon cutting to celebrate with him.

The furnishings of Whiting Motors pay tribute to Sehmi’s father, who also was an automobile enthusiast.

“My dad was into hot rod racing, which is why the walls are decorated with photos of old-school cars,” said Sehmi.

Sehmi said the cars now for sale at Whiting Motors were bought at auction, but the business should be taking trade-ins within the next few weeks.

Sehmi said Whiting Motors offers extended warranties on cars it sells and provides discounts for veterans.

“We have some good friends who served in Iraq,” said Sehmi.

Just prior to the ribbon cutting, Plainville Chamber Chairman Jeffrey DiCosimo offered congratulations.

“It’s great to have another auto mechanic shop in town,” he said. “From what I’ve been hearing, they do great work. I think Whiting Motors is going to be a big plus for Plainville.“
