BRISTOL - Tom Barnes, who leads Barnes Group Inc. and its charitable foundation, will be presented with the Hartford Business Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Honorees, who will be recognized for their impact as community servant and leaders, will receive the awards during a breakfast at The Hartford Club July 18.
Barnes, Chairman of the Board for Barnes Group Inc., leads a fifth-generation family manufacturing business as well as the company’s charitable foundation.
He also serves as a director of organizations including the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, the Connecticut Forum, Connecticut Science Center and the Bushnell.
He is a past director of groups including Renbrook School, Main Street Community Foundation in Bristol and the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. He is a former chairman of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association.
The following people will also be recognized at the breakfast:
n Suzanne Hopgood, CEO of The Hopgood Group and Chairman of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), has held leadership positions at numerous U.S. companies and is widely regarded as a trailblazer in overcoming “boardroom politics.”
n Adrienne W. Cochrane, Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Hartford Region, has spent her career advocating for social justice and helping disenfranchised individuals increase their self-sufficiency.
n Howard Orr, Owner/President of KTI Inc., became company president at the age of 24 and has served on more than 30 nonprofit boards and commissions during the course of his career.
“This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award honorees have made a broad and meaningful impact on their companies and their communities,” said Joe Zwiebel, president and publisher of the Hartford Business Journal. “These individuals are change agents, leaders and role models for young professionals. We are pleased to celebrate their accomplishments and honor their impact through these awards.”
The 2018 Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented by Hartford Business Journal with the support of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (presenting sponsor) and UConn School of Business (education leadership sponsor).
