BRISTOL - Riverside Investment Services LLC has been operating as a full-service financial firm since 2009.
Tom Barnes is the managing member and his wife, Emily, is the admin. “I have been doing this since 1999 and have been operating Riverside since 2006 as a division of Valley Bank and since 2009 as its own standalone company,” he said.
“We do investment management, financial planning, retirement planning, college planning, and I also do a lot of income planning for people,” Barnes said. “Basically there isn’t much we can’t do.”
What makes Riverside Investment Services distinctive is the individual service, he said. “We try to have the personal touch that seems to be lost in this day of big, major corporations. Each client is different. If you call us 99 percent of the time you will get a human right off the bat, and if not we will call you right back.”
Barnes said he puts a lot of effort into staying current with financial issues. As the city treasurer, he sits in on many pension meetings discussing new trends.
“I also keep up on a tremendous amount of reading and continuing education,” he added. “I’ve been very interested in the entire stock and investing world since I was 10 or 11. It’s been a lifelong pursuit.”
“The future for Riverside is to continue we’re doing, continuing to grow but at the same time not lose our local flavor. We like servicing Bristol, I think it’s an underserviced market,” he said.
Barnes noted he does not have a website so far, because he said the financial world is so regulated it would take a lot of time to keep a website up to date.
