BRISTOL - St. Paul sophomore infielder Julian Thayer was named to the 2017-18 All-USA Connecticut Baseball Second Team, as announced by USA Today High School Sports.

Thayer is one of two sophomores selected to either team and the only one listed as a non-pitcher.

“I actually found out about it this morning,” Thayer said last Friday. “If you look on the list you see a lot of the big time players in Connecticut. So as a sophomore it’s pretty cool. I think my improved hitting helped me out a lot.”

While Thayer was recognized as an infielder, he was also a standout pitcher at St. Paul and a big reason behind the Falcons’ Class S quarterfinal run.

“It’s an awesome recognition. It’s great for him. Especially as a sophomore, we couldn’t ask for much more,” St. Paul coach Vic Rinaldi said. “It’s a great honor for him being named to the team.”
