St. Paul girls tennis wins in quarterfinal round of NVL team tournament

BRISTOL - The St. Paul girls tennis team defeated Watertown 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Page Park in the quarterfinals of the NVL Championship tournament. The Falcons advance to play Sacred Heart in the semifinals today at Fulton Park in Waterbury, starting at 3:45 p.m.

St. Paul won all but one singles and one doubles match against Watertown. In singles, Victoria Kilbourne defeated Elizabeth Rinaldi, 8-0; Ximena Varela-Marin beat Sarah Copriano, 8-4; and Carina Fiscella got past Charena Manalo, 8-3.

In doubles, the Falcons’ Lizzie Etter and Grace Carabetta defeated Abigail Holly and Morgan Holly, 8-4; and Tessa Rogers and Alexis Carabetta beat Morgan Bennett and Chloe Venok, 9-8.

Both of St. Paul’s losses were close matches, with Watertown’s Julia D’Occhio defeating Katie Pauloz in No. 2 singles, 8-6; and Bianca Way and Alba Xhema beating Caroline Badal and Orenda Huang in No. 1 doubles, 9-7.
