DERBY - The St. Paul softball team unleashed an offensive onslaught en route to a 18-6 victory at Derby High on Thursday.
Jessica Persechino went 6-for-7 with two home runs and two triples. Katrina Roy added two triples of her own, while Lindsey O’Bright had two doubles.
Freshman Caleigh McDougal picked up the win from the pitching circle in her first career start.
Alex Enjim got the loss for the Red Raiders. Enjim also had a double on offense. Madison Poval has two triples.
The win improves St. Paul’s record to 11-1 on the year, while Derby drops to 5-7.
St. Paul 189, South Windsor 197, Northwest Catholic 206: The Falcons got the best of two other teams in a competitive three-way battle.
Northwest Catholic’s Jenna Fahey and South Windsor’s Amala Mammayil earned medalist honors, posting scores of 43.
But St. Paul had the best showing as a team, with four golfers coming in under the 50 mark: Natalie Millerick (46), Bella Hamelin (49), Sarah Richardson (47) and Jill Kiazim (47).
Platt 219, Bristol Eastern 235: The Panthers just edged out the Lancers, led by Dan Barillaro, who medaled with a score of 48.
Drew Fries (56), Brendan McMahon (58), Kelsea Wyrebek (60), Olivia Beaudoin (61) and Nick Jones (67) led the way for Bristol Eastern.
Newington 6, Bristol Eastern 1: The Indians cruised to victory, only dropping the No. 1 doubles match, where Kasey Simpson and Kelly Simpson got the win for Bristol Eastern (2-7).
