Sports Roundup: Bristol Eastern baseball edges out Bristol Central

BRISTOL - The Bristol Eastern baseball team beat Bristol Central 3-2 Wednesday in a night game played at Muzzy Field.

Jagger Duquette picked up the win for the Lancers on the mound and pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing five hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out nine. Ethan Ryan came on to record the final out of the game with two runners left on base.

Bristol Central’s two runs came in the second inning. Alex Balfour had a double in the inning and Austin Brown ripped an RBI single. A passed ball would score the second run for the Rams.

Bristol Central’s Steve Warkoski went the distance on the mound and allowed just five hits. He struck out four, walked two and only gave up one earned run.

The Lancers runs all came in the top of the sixth inning. Mac Goulet doubled in the inning and Jon Pierce had an RBI single. Goulet scored on a bad throw and Pierce scored on an infield error.

Bristol Eastern moved to 8-5 on the year and Bristol Central fell to 4-7.

St. Paul 5, Torrington 4: The Falcons had a memorable game.

Down 4-1 going into the final inning of play St. Paul needed base runners in a hurry.

Walker Sharp led off the inning to get it started.

Shaun Remillard singled, Josh Cofrancesco reached on an error, Nick Morrell ripped an RBI single, Julian Thayer walked to load the bases and Ryan Greene delivered a 2 RBI single to left center field, which would go on to be a game-winning hit.

Ethan Rembish started on the mound for St. Paul and pitched six innings allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out four. Scott Winters picked up the save for St. Paul, who moved to 12-2 on the season with the win.


South Windsor 7, Bristol Eastern 0: Of the four singles players for Bristol Eastern only Alexis Waag was able to win a game. The Lancers best performance came at the No. 3 doubles spot. Tina Guo and Megan Yates took South Windsor’s Julie Harper and Payal Shah to three sets in a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 loss.

St. Paul 6, Torrington 1: The Falcons continued their strong season and moved to 8-2 on the season with the win over the Red Raiders. Victoria Kilbourne, Katie Pauloz and Ximena Varela-Marin won at the top three singles slots. Orenda Huang and Caroline Badal took the win at No. 1 doubles. Lizzie Etter and Grace Carabetta won at No. 2 doubles. Lucy Min and Nayeli Torres took the match at No. 3 doubles.

Rocky Hill 6, Bristol Central 1: The Rams only win came at the No. 2 singles spot. Bristol Central’s Abby Gorneault beat Rocky Hill’s Mel Holmes 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.


St. Paul 15, Torrington 2: Abby Poirot led the charge for the St. Paul softball team in its dominating 15-2 victory over Torrington on Wednesday afternoon.

Poirot started on the mound for the Falcons and struck out 11 of the Red Raiders hitters while just allowing a pair of hits.

At the plate Poirot had a pair of homers, a double, 5 RBI and three runs scored on a 3-for-3 hitting display.

Katrina Roy and Lindsey O’Bright each had four hits in the game for St. Paul.

With the win the Falcons moved to 10-1 on the year.
