St. Paul girls swimming places seventh in NVL championship meet

WATERBURY - The NVL hosted its swimming and diving championship Friday afternoon at Kennedy High School. St. Paul finished 7th overall with a score of 299 beating Torrington, Wilby, Holy Cross and Kennedy.

Woodland Regional was the overall conference champion with a score of 791.

The Falcons’ medley relay which placed ninth, consisted of Julia Sosnowski, Tori Bosio, Mary Melvin and Kayligh Grustas.

While St. Paul didn’t place in any events they still had notable swims.

Emily Haase finished 9th in the 200 freestyle and 5th in the 100 breaststroke. Molly MacCallister finished 11th overall in the 200 IM and 15th in the 100 backstroke. Bosio placed 17th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 breaststroke.

Miranda Grustas placed 13th in the 50 freestyle and 14th in the 100 freestyle whereas Kayleigh Grustas placed 16th in the 50 freestyle and 18th in the 100 freestyle.

The Falcons’ 200 freestyle relay team of MacCallister, Haase, Bosio and Miranda Grustas finished 5th overall, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Kayleirgh Grustas , Miranda Grustas, Haase and MacCallister finished 7th.

Seymour finished second with a score of 780, Watertown was third with a score of 642, Oxford in fourth with a score of 584, Sacred Heart placed fifth with a score of 561 and Naugatuck placed sixth with a score of 467.
