Sports Roundup: VanLinter scores three goals to lead St. Paul's boys soccer past Derby for third win of season

BRISTOL - Behind Adam VanLinter’s three goals, the St. Paul boys soccer team came up with a blowout 8-0 win against Derby on Tuesday.

Matt Goodwin and Ethan Rembish scored a pair of goals for the Falcons, while Dylan Bissonette added a goal of his own.

St. Paul got off to a strong start, going into the half with a 5-0 lead.

On the defensive end, the Falcons were exceptional.

Matt Raymond made four saves for St. Paul, while Bonifacius Sidharta had three saves.

The Falcons get their third win of the season and are now 3-7-2, while the Red Raiders have still yet to win a game.

Maloney 2, Bristol Eastern 0: The Lancers and Spartans both played strong in the first half.

In the second half, Maloney scored 20 minutes in on a goal by Ben Pierce and then Sanford Bruce put in the second goal off a deflection to give the Spartans the two-goal advantage.

Bristol Eastern had six shots while Maloney had five.

Tom Tefoe made two saves for the Lancers.

Dante Costantiello, Gabriel Soucy and Nick Lachance all had strong games for Bristol Eastern.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 4-6-2 on the year and will host RHAM on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Nonnewaug 6, Terryville 0: The Kangaroos came into the game knowing how tough of a team Nonnewaug was after losing to them earlier in the season 8-0.

If anything, the 6-0 loss represents improvement for Terryville.

The Kangaroos keeper Maria Cesare made 11 saves.

For Nonnewaug, Ariza Malloy and Mary Bibbey each scored a pair of goals.

With the loss Terryville drops to 3-8 on the year and will travel to face Thomaston today.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Middletown 100, Bristol Central 81: With some of their swimmers out due to sickness and injury, the Rams couldn’t get past the strong Blue Dragons group.

Bristol Central finished in first place in the 200 medley relay.

Mackenzie Pina placed first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle.

Camille Attle was first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 fly.

Ailey Driscoll finished first in the 100 breaststroke.

The Rams will face Bristol Eastern on Tuesday next week in the last meet of the regular season.

Bristol Eastern 97, Maloney/Platt 83: The Lancers improved to 6-6 for the season with a victory at Maloney High School, setting six personal best times.

Event winners for Bristol Eastern included Julia Michaud (200 IM and 100 butterfly), Chelsea DeMarest (200 freestyle), Zoe DiChello (diving), Kay-lin Koh (100 freestyle), Hope Johnsky (500 freestyle) and Brianna Ogonowski (100 breaststroke).
