BRISTOL - The Bristol Central baseball team was unable to generate much offense on Tuesday afternoon, collecting just four hits in a 5-1 loss to visiting Maloney.
Two of those hits came from Mike Lemke, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and the only RBI for the Rams (3-2).
Maloney (3-3) collected 11 hits in the game, scoring three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
Bristol Central 3, Plainville 1: The Rams improved to 3-1 last Thursday as Ken Knox turned in an outstanding performance on the mound, going the distance and navigating out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh.
The Rams struck first in the contest, jumping to a 1-0 lead in the third. Eric Gaudreau led off the inning with a walk and Dathan Hickey followed with a single. Mike Lemke’s ground ball then scored Gaudreau before the Blue Devils retired the next two batters to avoid further damage.
Bristol Central added two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead. Jacob Santiago began the inning with a walk and Jaylen Dias singled. Kevin White followed with an RBI single, his first of two hits on the day. Gaudreau then knocked in Dias with a ground out for the Rams’ third and final run.
Knox was in control throughout, scattering just four hits, while striking out eight. Plainville challenged in the seventh, scoring one run and putting the go-ahead run on first base with two outs. However, Knox was able to work out of trouble and end the rally. Knox came through with a strikeout of Robert Munson to finish the game, improving to 2-0 on the mound for the year.
Terryville 14, Litchfield 6: The Kangaroos enjoyed a big win over Berkshire League rival Litchfield at home.
Shawn Fulton had four hits, three runs and an RBI for the Kangaroos; while John Grimes had three hits, one run and one RBI; and Zach Harnish had three hits, three runs and an RBI. Brad Kozikowski was the winning pitcher.
Terryville 14, Litchfield 6: The Kangaroos again enjoyed plenty of offense, collecting 11 hits for a victory at Plumb Hill Field Complex in Litchfield.
Leading the way for Terryville (2-3) were Maria Cesare (2-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Alycia Calabrese (2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI), Amy Ieronimo (2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI), Alexandria Michaud (1-for-3, 3 runs), Samantha Stone (1-for-3, 3 runs) and Dominique Picard (1-for-4, 1 run, 3 RBI).
Shepaug 14, Terryville 3: Despite some solid offensive performances, the Kangaroos lost at home on Monday afternoon.
Shepaug pitcher Erin McGrath went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI at the plate as her team took a 13-1 lead through three innings. Both teams had 12 hits in the game.
For Terryville (1-3), Alexa Nelson went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Alycia Calabrese was 2-for-3 with a run, Lexie Gonska went 3-for-4 and Amy Ieronimo was 2-for-4.
Watertown 11, St. Paul 7: The Falcons fell to 1-2 after a loss at Watertown on Monday.
Annie Sullivan netted four goals and had an assist for St. Paul, while Ashley Suzio, Katherine Ciampi and Carolyn DelDebbio had one goal each.
Maddie Bernier and Alyssa Kaczynski combined on 12 saves for the Falcons.
St. Paul 7, Ansonia 0: The Falcons swept their way to a dominant victory at Peck Park in Bristol, as their top three singles players - Tori Kilbourne, Katie Pauloz and Sophia Penisse - did not lose a single game.
Caroline Badal also won in singles, with the doubles teams of Lizzy Etter and Ximena Varela-Marin, Nicole Wroblewski and Orenda Huang, and Lucy Min and Kamila Krawczuk all also winning as St. Paul improved to 4-1.
Bristol Eastern 6, Rockville 1: The Lancers won all the matches except No. 1 doubles on Monday, including three by forfeit. Justin Trottier and Ridhwan Abdulsalam won singles matches on the court, while Thomas Tefoe and Benjamin Chiasson won at No. 2 doubles.
Middletown 181, Bristol Eastern 216: Middletown’s Derek Frame earned medalist honors with a round of 38 at Chippanee Golf Club in Bristol (par 35) on Monday, as the Lancers fell to 0-2 for the season.
Scoring for Bristol Eastern were Ally McMahon (50), Brendan McMahon (52), Mollie Lewis (54) and Kelsea Wryebek (60).
St. Paul 182, Seymour 205, Wilby 256: The Falcons swept their opening meet of the season on Monday, with Ryne Salius picking up medalist honors with a round of 40 at Chippanee Golf Club in Bristol (par 35).
Also for St. Paul (2-0), Marc Noujaim and Adam Ward each shot a 46, Sam Mazzarelli had a 50 and Noah DeFeo carded a 52.
Wamogo 188, Terryville 224, Shepaug 226: The Kangaroos split their opening meet of the season on Monday at Pequabuck Golf Club in Terryville (par 35), with Wamogo’s Sean Brady earning medalist honors with a round of 42.
For Terryville (1-1), Mike Hills shot a 47, Mike Gudeczauskas had a 49, Christian Robinson scored a 60, Mike Cote carded a 68 and Anthony Garuti had a round of 69.
Bristol Central 111½, Platt 38½: The Rams won 12 events and swept six to roll to their third straight win on Monday at Platt High School. David Bowes led the Rams with wins in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races as well as being a part of the winning 4x100 relay. Elijah Ortiz was a double winner for the Rams with victories in both hurdle events.
Other winners for Central were Alrick Grant (800), Matt Roy (3,200), Luis Medina (long jump) and Mike Guzman (discus). Central also won all three relay events.
Bristol Central 88, Platt 48: The Rams improved to 3-0 (2-0 CCC South Blue) with a victory at Platt High School on Monday.
Triple winners for Central were Olivia Savino (100 hurdles, 17.24; 300 hurdles, 52.97; and 4x100 relay with Adalia Malick, Shy-Ann Whitten and Nicole Pizarro, 53.6) and Hannah Jones (1,600 meters, 6:05; 3,200 meters, 13.12.7; and 4x800 relay with Ashley Cummings, Alexandra Sirko and Paige Hinton, 11:36).
Other event winners for the Rams were Malick (400 meters, 1:04.82), Cummings (800 meters, 2:40.5), Pizarro (triple jump, 31-11½), Whitten (high jump, 5-0), Joana Lalaj (pole vault) and 4x400 relay (Cummings, Pizarro, Hinton, Malick, 4:30.7).
