MERIDEN - The Bristol Eastern baseball team finally got in the win column on Thursday afternoon, taking down host Maloney 9-2.

The Lancers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Anthony Lozier and Jake Violette were both driven in by a Zac Marquis triple and Marquis scored the third out of the frame on a Gary Gagnier sacrifice fly.

After the Spartans got a run back in the bottom of the second, the Lancers kept them at bay by scoring a run without a single hit in the top of the third. Bristol Eastern then pulled away with five runs over the next two innings, while Maloney only pushed across one more run in the contest.

Violette improved to 1-1 on the mound this season, pitching six innings and allowing just four hits and two earned runs while striking out five. On offense, Gagnier led the way with a single and a double and MacGregor Goulet added a pair of singles.

Watertown 5, St. Paul 2: The Indians claimed their first win of the season while also handing the Falcons their first defeat of the season.

St. Paul was shut out through the first six innings and Watertown put up four runs in the fourth inning, as well as one in the third, to get the victory. Julian Thayer suffered the loss on the mound - his varsity debut at the position - despite striking out three and holding the Indians to one run over the first three innings.

Both of the Falcons’ runs came in the top of the second in a last-ditch effort. Thayer, Jack Bator and Chris Mills each hit singles and Nick Morrell had a double in the frame but the comeback fell short.

St. Paul 12, Watertown 6: The top of the batting order was on fire for the Falcons in Thursday’s win over the Indians. Brigid Johndrow, Brooke Perez and Alessandra Milardo occupy the top three spots in the lineup for St. Paul coach Gary Hovhanessian and the three of them each finished the game with two singles, one double and two runs scored.

On offense, Jessica Persechino and Abby Poirot each had a double. In the circle, Milardo picked up her fourth win of the season for the 5-0 Falcons.

Bristol Eastern 5, Bristol Central 2: In the season opener for both teams, the Lancers claimed three singles wins and two doubles victories to take down the Rams. On the singles side, Ridhwan Abdulsalam, Devon Plourde and Thomas Lombardi each won for Bristol Eastern. In doubles, Thomas Tefoe and Ben Chiasson won at No. 2 and Matt Naigle and Justin Wietreyvowski won at No. 3.

For Bristol Central, top singles player Colin Savino defeated Justin Trottier 6-1, 6-2 and top doubles pairing Alex Bernier and Mike Kaminski pulled out the Rams’ other win.
