Itâ€™s tournament time once again and area lacrosse teams are gearing up for its first postseason in two years.
Games begin Friday, highlighted by the Newington boys teamâ€™s matchup against Brandford-East Haven, which will take place at 7 p.m. at Clem Lemire Field. The battle will be a qualifying round contest in the Class L state tournament between the 10th-ranked Norâ€™easters and No. 23 Brandford-East Haven. The winner will face No. 7 Hall at 4:30 on June 2.
The Bristol boys coop also earned a spot in Class L as the No. 15 seed and itâ€™ll host No. 18 Xavier on Friday at 5 p.m. at Bristol Eastern for another qualifying round bout with the winner traveling to undefeated second-seeded Amity on June 2.
Southington was the final squad to earn a spot in the Class L boys tournament and will have to go on the road to face No. 14 Ridgefield on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the qualifying round. The Blue Knights grabbed the No. 19 seed with a 9-7 record and will earn a date with third-seeded Staples if they win.
In Class S, the St. Paul boys were the only area team to make the tournament, but earned the highest ranking out of all the local schools as the No. 4 seed. The Falcons will host No. 13 Lewis Mills next Wednesday, June 2, at 4:30 p.m.
The St. Paul girls team secured the No. 13 seed in the Class S girls tournament and will host No. 20 Somers on Friday at 3:30 p.m. A win will send the Falcons to fourth-seeded Tolland on June 1 at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the 20th-ranked Berlin girls will travel to face No. 13 Ledyard in the qualifying round of the Class M tournament at 10 a.m. The winner of this game will take on No. 4 Joel Barlow on June 1.
Also in Class M, the Bristol Central girls got the eighth-seed and host No. 9 Pomperaug next Tuesday, June 1, at 5 p.m in a first-round meeting.
The Southington girls qualified as the only Class L school as the 10th-seed and will head to No. 7 Fairfield Ludlowe on Tuesday, June 1 at 5 p.m. in a first-round matchup.
