Southington boys swimming claims CCC West conference title

SOUTHINGTON - The Southington boys swim team placed first in the CCC West conference meet Wednesday with 304 points.

There were six teams competing. Conard (247), Hall (220.5), Farmington (175), Simsbury (173.5) and Northwest Catholic (142) followed up the Blue Knights.

Southington had five conference champion titles.

In the 200 medley relay, Derek Melanson, Brendon Egan, Evan Bender and Alex Kuhr were conference champions with a first place time of 1:45.84.

Tyler Heidgerd finished as a conference champion in two separate events, the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

In the 200 free Heidgerd had a time of 1:49.07 and in the 100 back he had a time of 54.54.

Chase Galayda took the conference title in diving for the Blue Knights and also set a new school record with a score of 276.20, breaking a record that was previously set in 1990.

Rounding out the Southington conference champions was [Brendon Egan] in the 100 fly. He finished in first with a time of 55.25.
