BRISTOL - The Bristol co-op boys swim team knew Friday’s home meet against Southington wasn’t going to be easy.
And it wasn’t, as Bristol fell to the Blue Knights 97-81, with the final three events going into exhibition after Southington took a 97-43 lead.
“We knew we didn’t have the greatest chance of winning today,” Bristol’s Ben Stafford said. “So we just wanted to do our best. We’re trying to stay hungry right now because we haven’t been doing the greatest as a team, but we have had a lot of great individual races.”
However, Bristol Eastern had individual success with 15 best times in the meet.
“Obviously, Southington was very strong,” Daddabbo said. “They have a lot of really talented kids and go a lot deeper than we do. Our team did really well today. I’m really proud of them.”
Bristol’s 400 freestyle relay team of Stafford, Gabriel Bartolome, Colton Litwinczyk and Keagan Mullan placed first and set a season best with a time of 3:40:76.
“Our relay was really good,” Litwinczyk said. “We have a lot of synergy together so we work well with each other.
“We started out rocky in the first. We were neck to neck until Colton, who was our third guy, pushed us ahead a little and I knew I had to keep it up to ensure the victory.”
Bartolome set a season best mark in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05:56, placing first in the event.
For diving, Sebastian Rutkowski got his season-best score with 141 points.
Anthony Fasci recorded season bests in two different events, the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.
In the 100 freestyle, Fasci finished at 1:04:24; and in the 100 breaststroke, he finished with a time of 1:19:93.
Also with impressive times were Mullan and Litwinczyk.
Mullan placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24:34 and Litwinczyk was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13:02.
For Bristol, it wasn’t as much beating Southington, but rather seeing how it stacked up against a strong Blue Knights group.
“What we’ve seen from the first meet and up to now is non-stop improvement,” Mullan said. “Everyone is improving tremendously. Our teamwork is getting better and our communication all around.
“We’ll keep improving over time with more meets. I’m proud of what our team did today and I hope it continues later on in the season.”
Bristol moved to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
