Southington girls tennis advances in tourney after Darien is disqualified

Due to the use of an ineligible player, Darien High School has been disqualified from the CIAC Class L girls tennis tournament. Per CIAC by-laws, Southington High School, Darien’s first-round opponent, will now play against Greenwich High in a quarterfinal at a site to be determined.

Per CIAC by-laws, “when it is discovered that a team has used an ineligible competitor in a CIAC team tournament, the tournament game/match shall be forfeited. The team using the ineligible player will be disqualified from the tournament and that team’s last opponent will advance in its place. Teams eliminated prior to the last opponent will not be permitted to re-enter the tournament.”

Darien self-reported use of the ineligible player which was discovered after its victory against Southington in a first-round match on May 27.
