Southington’s first non-profit travel team will be hosting open tryouts on Sunday, Jan. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Plainville’s “Around the Horn.” The tryouts are for kids ages 8-11 for placement on the 10/11U teams.

Children will be required to show up 15 minutes early and should be fully dressed up for baseball although sneakers are O.K. because it is an indoor facility. The child must be equipped with their own glove, hat, helmet and bat. The tryouts will consist of basic fielding, throwing and batting skill assessments. Each child will be graded accordingly for a position on the 2017 spring roster.

Parents can register their child online at . There will be a required $16 fee for AAU registration and player insurance. This is required by the East Shore League and the AAU organization to attend tryouts. If a child is selected to the team, the fee will be applied towards the down payment. If you choose not to play or your child does not make the team, the fee will be fully refunded.

Blue Knights Travel Baseball is a fully registered “not for profit” organization and will focus on competitive travel baseball at a fair price for all kids. This team will be playing in the East Shore AAU travel league. Practices will be local while games and tournaments will likely require travel.
