SOUTHINGTON – The Southington Education Foundation's Fourth Annual Trivia Bee is coming to Cadillac Ranch on Oct. 26, raising money to support local scholarships and education initiatives.

The Trivia Bee, conducted by WhatTrivia, will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the restaurant at 45 Jude Lane. Participants are welcomed to come dressed in their Halloween costumes and enjoy fun, family-friendly trivia. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and there will also be raffles, food and a cash bar. Proceeds support the Southington Education Foundation's efforts to fund grants and programs that benefit Southington children.

Jerry Belanger, of the Southington Education Foundation, said that the Trivia Bee is the nonprofit's major fundraiser of the year. This year will mark the first time that it has been held at Cadillac Ranch.

"We're looking to hold it at a new venue every year," he said. "We'd like to make our way around town."

Last year, Belanger said, the Trivia Bee attracted 90 participants, playing as teams or individually. He hopes to see more people join in this year.

"Come out, have a fun night and help to support local students," he said. "Even if you don't want to participate in the trivia, we'll gladly take donations."

Examples of programs that the Southington Education Foundation has funded in past years include the "Research and Programming" initiative started by Caitlin Kelley, a teacher at Strong Elementary School. The program sees fourth and fifth grade students research historical figures including famous inventors and famous people from the American Revolution and World War II.

The Southington Education Foundation also recently funded the "Robot Programming" project at Flanders Elementary School, started by Sarah McKenney and Debbie Mauro. The project provides students the opportunity to gain experience about basic coding skills.

People can sign-up for the trivia as individuals or as a team of up to eight people.

Tickets are $25 per person.
