SOUTHINGTON – Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” cast member Nick Tokman will speak at United Way of Southington’s Annual Dinner and Kickoff Campaign on Sept. 16 at Aqua Turf Club.

“Nick has an amazing story to share. He brings the energy and motivation that aligns with the event and our mission. Most importantly, it’s all to benefit our nonprofit partners doing vital work for town residents,’” United Way of Southington’s Executive Director Jack Eisenmann said.

Tokman, also known as “Sunshine,” will speak on the importance of building self-confidence, overcoming hardships and creating personal success. He will also discuss his four-year career experience through extreme weather conditions and extensive workdays.

“Tokman will be sharing his story of how he went from initially seeing a boat on television to getting on the very boat that compelled him to go crab fishing in Alaska – the Northwestern. Tokman will also talk about the struggles he went through trying to land a commercial fishing job in Alaska, including homelessness,” United Way of Southington’s press release said.

The events theme is “Hooked on Helping” and will be hosted from 6-10 p.m. at 556 Mulberry St.
