Southington police ID man killed in crash

SOUTHINGTON – A pedestrian killed in a car crash in Southington on Monday has been identified. 

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as Austin Kowaleski, a resident of Laning Street. He was 38 years old.

According to police, Kowaleski was killed during a crash reported Monday around 8 p.m. in the area of Queen and Laning streets.

Police believe the motorist who was involved, driving a sedan south through the Queen Street and Interstate 84 intersection, struck Kowaleski as he was crossing Queen Street, from Laning Street. Police said the 38-year-old was struck by the passenger side, front end of the vehicle before being projected forward and into the northbound lane of Queen Street. 

Kowaleski was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, where he died. 

No other injuries were reported.
