SOUTHINGTON – Blend Healthy Spot will be celebrating its grand opening Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., said Melissa Biosa, co-owner of the nutrition bar. She said the ribbon cutting is at 6 p.m.

Blend Healthy Spot is located at 682 West St., Southington.

Biosa said the nutrition bar has healthy smoothies with 24 grams of protein and 21 vitamins and minerals. She said all smoothies are under 200 calories.

“We also have energy refreshers that help you boost your metabolism,” Briosa said. “We have protein waffles and donuts.”

Briosa said she disliked the woman she was a few years ago. She said she was introduced to nutrition and chose to live a healthier lifestyle.

“I’m down 125 pounds,” she said. “I created this space of wanting to learn what nutrition is and just wanting to feel better.”

According to Briosa, people asked how she lost weight and wanted to help them with a healthier lifestyle.

“Whether it was just to feel better, gain or lose weight, just honestly understanding what nutrition was and how to get started because sometimes, before we start, we give up because we think it’s too hard,” Briosa said.

Briosa said she made smoothies at home to help others. She said her husband and co-owner, Carlos Briosa, told her to start a storefront.

“We wanted to reach more people and introduce them to nutrition and what we have to offer,” she said. “We’re going to celebrate our grand opening on Thursday, and it has been a dream come true.”

The Southington community has been welcoming, and the customers are friendly, Briosa said.

“It’s the connections within the conversations and who we have met; that’s what I take home everyday,” she said.

Briosa said that despite her commute, Southington was the location she chose to open her nutrition bar.

“The community, the conversations, everything, the day-to-day that we have with people fulfills us,” she said. “That was the purpose.”

Briosa said the most popular smoothie is the “Samoa,” and the most popular energy refresher is “Strawberry Cucumber.”

“It’s unusual for someone to go into a restaurant and get a full meal under 200 calories,” she said. “Some people skip breakfast, so they make it a ritual to drink our shakes and jump back into a healthy lifestyle.”
