SOUTHINGTON – UConn Women's Basketball Head Coach Geno Auriemma will headline the United Way of Southington's annual campaign dinner Sept. 10 at the Aqua Turf Club.
The dinner, “Honoring Our Superheroes” will include an open bar, music, dancing, a silent auction and a variety of dinner items served starting at 6 p.m. at the banquet facility at 556 Mulberry St. Auriemma has accepted the role of campaign chairman and he will also be a guest speaker.
United Way of Southington Vice President Art Secondo noted that Auriemma accepted the role as campaign chairman when asked by United Way Executive Director Jack Eisenmann, who was also part of the basketball program for many years at UConn.
Proceeds from the fundraiser dinner will assist the United Way of Southington in financially supporting the nine local organizations that they serve. These agencies are Bread For Life, Prudence Crandall Center, Literacy Volunteers, Margaret Griffin Preschool, the YMCA, Senior Transportation Services, Inc., Southington Community Services, the YMCA Sexual Assault Hotline and Child Guidance Clinic.
Cheryl Lounsbury, who was elected president of United Way of Southington in June, said that representatives of these agencies will be in attendance.
“This promises to be a fun evening and we are anticipating a large turnout from those who support United Way and what our volunteers do for Southington,” said Lounsbury.
Eisenmann said that this year will be an important campaign due to the pandemic and the increased demand it has created.
"United Way hopes to again continue its commitment to raising funds to assist our Southington residents,” said Eisenmann.
The program will also include a farewell presentation to former United Way president Rob Flood who recently announced he was moving to Maine.
Tickets are $90 per person can be purchased from United Way board members or by visiting the United Way's website, unitedwayofsouthington.org.
