SOUTHINGTON – The Southington Chamber of Commerce is once again bringing in a host of celebrity athlete guests for their 28th Annual Southington Chamber Cup Classic. People can sign-up now for the tournament, which will be held Sept. 22 at Hawk’s Landing Country Club.
The tournament will begin with breakfast and registration at 8:30 a.m. at the golf course at 201 Pattonwood Drive, followed by the tournament and then a sit-down dinner in the Bella Vista room where awards will be presented.
“We’re going to have the full golf experience this year,” said Barbara Coleman-Hekeler, president of the Southington Chamber of Commerce. “Area restaurants will offer ‘bites and brews’ along the course with a wide variety of foods and Worldwide Wine & Spirits a sponsor will have a tasting tent. There will also be all kinds of nice raffle prizes to win.”
Participants can meet the pro-athletes during breakfast and platinum sponsors will also be able to golf with them. After the tournament, platinum sponsors can also get their photos taken with the celebrity guests and get those photos signed.
Coleman-Hekeler said that Dana Rickard and Kathleen Cavanaugh-Rickard, of CompuMail, are chairing the golf committee this year and helped to bring the athletes to town.
“Dana and Kathy put a lot of hours into making this tournament possible, along with the volunteers that serve on the committee,” said Coleman-Hekeler. “Chamber member businesses really are the backbone of this tournament, which is truly a volunteer-driven event.”
The following athletes are scheduled to appear:
. Major League Baseball player Tom Burgmeir
. Major League Baseball player Bill "Soup" Campbell
. Professional Ice Hockey player Jim Corsi
. Major League Baseball player Steve Crawford
. Major League Baseball player Bill "Spaceman" Lee

Other sponsors include Pepsi Cola Bristol as the drink sponsor and Chick-fil-A as the Breakfast Sponsor. The lodging sponsor for the celebrity guests is Homewood Suites by Hilton.
The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain will also sponsor a “goodie bag” for all participants.
“There will be a lot of fun novelties and specialty discounts from area businesses,” said Coleman-Hekeler.
SL Healthplans, LLC is a platinum sponsor for the event.
Coleman-Hekeler encouraged those who wish to participate in the golf tournament to register their foursome on southingtonchamber.com as soon as possible as registration is first-come, first served.
“In past years we’ve sold out consistently when we had the pro-athletes playing and we see a lot of returning players,” she said. “We’re expecting another full tournament of 144 golfers this year.”
Coleman-Hekeler encouraged people to sign-up and have a fun time out on the course with the Chamber.
“Last year was a tough year, so we’d like to see everyone embrace this opportunity to come together and support the chamber during this great event,” she said. “The Southington Chamber Cup Classic is a chance to enjoy a fun day of camaraderie and relationship building.”
Coleman-Hekeler added that there are multiple opportunities for business sponsorships.
“There is something affordable for every size company and every budget,” she said. “A $100 tee sponsor $100 gets you a sign with company name and logo. A $250 flag sponsor gets you a custom-embroidered flag with the company logo. Usually at the end of the tournament, some of the celebrities, if not all of them, sign the flag. In addition to the platinum sponsors getting the celebrities to play in their foursomes, they will get the flag, a specialty shirt and extra items in their goodie bags.
