SOUTHINGTON – Town Manager Mark Sciota has closed Town Hall to the public but essential staff remain to continue operations.

“As of today, in compliance with the Governor’s request, only essential personnel will be reporting to work at town offices,” said Sciota. “We are keeping government operations to a bare minimum. I would like to thank not only town staff but the citizens of Southington for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.”

The Southington Police Department, Southington Fire Department, Water Pollution Control and Community Services remain fully staffed.

The Highway and Parks Department are maintaining a crew on a rotating basis until further notice. Local parks and the Linear Trail are remaining open but playscapes are closed to the public.

The Calendar House will have limited bus services for medical appointment and designated lunch deliveries.

Sciota said that the town, under the executive orders issued by Governor Ned Lamont, will continue to have town meetings when the meetings are necessary to continue town functions.

“We plan to livestream our Board of Finance meeting this Wednesday in keeping with social distancing,” said Sciota. “Once the Board of Finance is done with the budget there will be a public hearing at the Town Council meeting April 27. We are going to be looking at the situation closely and make a decision as we get closer to that date.”

Sciota encouraged residents to visit the town website for information about when meetings are held.

“In most cases there will be opportunity for public to view live stream or listen on conference call,” he said.
