SOUTHINGTON - A man was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation Wednesday after a fire at a mobile home.

“He made it out prior to the fire department arriving,” said Capt. Edwin Crandall.

The fire was reported around 7:45 p.m. at 7 South Road, and the first arriving units were there within minutes.

The victim was taken to Hartford Hospital in an ambulance. He was evaluated for smoke inhalation.

The mobile home sustained some damage to a bedroom, Crandall said. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to that room.

The fire took about 15 minutes to get under control.

It was not immediately clear whether the home was suitable for the resident to return.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
