SOUTHINGTON - A local man faces charges for allegedly struggling with police while officers were investigating the report of an assault.

Jan Willicka, 61, refused to get out of a car on June 2 after police pulled the vehicle over on Mount Vernon Road, police said Tuesday. Police said the 61-year-old was a passenger in the vehicle.

Officers had been called to Prospect Street on the report that a man was striking a woman inside a gray Subaru, and that the woman was yelling for him to let her go.

After pulling the vehicle over, police said, Willicka refused to get out and tried to lock himself inside. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, according to police.

No injuries were reported.

Police on Tuesday did not elaborate on the assault complaint and their findings.

Willicka faces charges of interfering with an officer and second-degree breach of peace. He is free on $1,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Bristol Superior Court.
