SOUTHINGTON – The Southington Police Department has announced that the Hart Street Bridge will be undergoing repairs, resulting in detours, starting June 17.
According to a statement from the department, the repairs are expected to take between two and three days to complete. While it is undergoing repairs, the bridge will be closed between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during the day. The bridge will re-open to traffic each night.
Jim Grappone, Assistant Town Engineer, said that the work is being competed by Martin Laviero Contractor, Inc. from Bristol. He said that it had been a while since the bridge was last paved.
“They will be milling the surface down and putting in a waterproof membrane to protect it,” said Grappone. “Then they will be putting down two coverings of pavement.”
Grappone said that motorists will be redirected onto Curtiss Street during the daytime construction. Residents will be notified of the work via an Everbridge alert on their phones.
“It’s what we use to send out notifications whenever there is an emergency or a construction project or a school delay,” said Grappone.
