SOUTHINGTON - A Tuesday evening fire is expected to keep a local Italian restaurant closed for some time.
According to the fire department, firefighters around 7:15 p.m. responded to a fire at Mamma Mia, located at 1765 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. They were called on the report of fire coming from a kitchen vent with heavy smoke conditions on the second floor of the building.
The fire took about an hour to put out. Crews also spent time searching for small pockets of fire throughout the building.
No injuries were reported.
The fire caused heavy damage to the interior of the building. The restaurant is expected to be closed for some time.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by both the local and state fire marshal, according to the fire department.
