SOUTHINGTON - Southington’s newest restaurant offered a sneak-peek on Saturday to help raise funds for the Southington High School All Knight Grad Party.

The Que Whiskey Kitchen will make its grand opening on Wednesday, sitting in the location that used to be occupied by TD Homers, at 461 Queen St. The restaurant offers barbecue food and a number of different whiskey selections, boasting more than 350 different kinds.

“It’s the largest selection of whiskey in the state,” Michael Knudsen, beverage director for the Hartford Restaurant Group, said at the soft opening on Saturday.

“There’s a little bit of something for everyone,” he said.

The sneak-peek on Saturday offered complimentary food, beverages and live music to those that attended the ticketed event. The ticket proceeds will be donated to help fund the SHS grad party, which takes place each year on graduation night, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The party helps keep children safe on a night that can otherwise entail student-run parties.

Que has also offered 10 percent of gift card purchases made through Dec. 31 to the SHS grad party. The grad party, held at the high school, is made possible through donations made by local businesses and community members. Hundreds of volunteers work to make it happen, and the event is always free to graduating seniors.

The location where Que sits had been vacant after TD Homers closed its doors about two years ago. Elaine Ducharme, who did the interior design of Que Whiskey Kitchen, said she wanted to make it an environment where guests would hang out and spend time there.

“Barbecue food is usually served cafeteria-style,” she said. “We want people to be able to hang out and enjoy the food that took 12 hours to make.”

Ducharme also said Que plans to have a number of games for guests once the weather warms up and the patio area is used.

Que Whiskey Kitchen is owned by the Hartford Restaurant Group, which also owns a number of Wood-n-Tap Bar and Grill locations around Connecticut, including those in Newington, Southington, Farmington and other towns.
