SOUTHINGTON - The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA has expanded its website for the 39th annual Apple Harvest Festival Road Race, which will be held Sept. 30 downtown.
The website, sccymca.org/for-healthy-living/southington-ymca/apple-harvest-road-race, now features the race flier, directions, a course map for the 5-mile and 5-kilometer races, results from last year, pictures from previous years, a sponsor list, training tips and information on Team Lauryn, Team Adam and Team Jim and Team SMSAA (Southington Middle School Athletics Association).
Race Director John Myers, executive director of the local Y, said those teams will be conducting fundraisers. People can pay $30 to support a team when signing up for the races, with $20 going toward the race and $10 supporting the team.
“We are honored to have Team Lauyrn back this year,” said Myers. “The money they raise will go toward supporting the Lauryn Oslo Scholarship Fund. This year, we are also partnering with team SMSAA in their efforts to keep middle school sports alive and vibrant. We are also partnering with Team Adam and Team Jim to help raise memorial funds in memory of Adam Levin and Jim Mafiolini.”
Races offered include the traditional 5-mile road race, which starts at 8:30 a.m. at the top of Columbus Boulevard; the 5K road race, which begins at 8:45 a.m. at the same location; a 2-mile health walk, which begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the YMCA at 29 High St.; the “Little Fritter” run for young children, which starts at 9:30 a.m. on the Town Green; and the “Y Cup” relay for local fourth and fifth graders.
People can register on the website or can also print out the flier from the website and send it to the YMCA.
Additionally, people interested in signing up can drop by the Y during operating hours and register in person.
Myers said that the first 1,200 people to register will receive a “very cool” T-shirt. Those who preregister can pick up their number and T-shirt before race day at the Y, on Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The YMCA is also offering a military discount, $20 instead of the normal $25 registration fee, for men and women who are serving or who have served. A special category of awards will be presented to people now or formerly in the military.
