SOUTHINGTON – The Town of Southington has announced that Kristi Sadowski accepted the position of Executive Director of the Southington Public Library and Barnes Museum.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Kristi to Southington and are confident that she will be an asset to the town as the executive director of Southington Public Library and the Barnes Museum,” Southington Town Manager Mark Sciota said.
Sadowski has family in Southington and said that she is eager to get started and become part of the community. Her start date is July 16.
“From everything I’ve heard, it’s a great town and families like living here a lot,” she said. “The library is also great and we have a really enthusiastic, innovative staff that is dedicated to bringing the library into the future.”
Sadowski said that she met with her predecessor, Sue Smayda, and that she shares Smayda’s goal of renovating the library.
“I agree with her and the board of directors that we need to expand our facilities,” Sadowski said. “We have a wonderful, busy children’s area but there isn’t a lot of space. Our quiet study is not closed off from the rest of the library and our community room is not large enough for the number of people who wish to attend our programs.”
Sadowski also said that she hopes to have the library play a larger role at community events.
“We want to show people what the library has to offer and how it can help in their lives,” she said.
Sadowski said that she has met with members of the town council and is eager to meet other town leaders and community members to better understand the needs of those living in town.
When she visited The Barnes Museum, Sadowski said she was “unprepared” for the “magnificent” collection of antiques that it held.
She said that Marie Secondo, museum curator, gave her an initial 40-minute tour and that she looks forward to learning more about the Barnes family and their historical artifacts.
Sadowski comes to Southington after eight years at Booth & Dimock Memorial Library in Coventry.
She was promoted to a co-director position after a year and was promoted to library director in 2016.
Her experience also includes work with town appointed building committee and architects to create a concept design plan and bring it forward to referendum. For that work, she was awarded a Connecticut State Library Construction Grant.
Sadowski was also responsible for introducing a managed Wi-Fi program to the library and overseeing the maintenance and preservation of the library.
