Untimely death in Southington ruled homicide; suspect shot himself

SOUTHINGTON --  A local woman was shot and killed on Sunday by a man who later shot himself at the Naugatuck Police Department.

The suspect, Robert DeSantis, 40, of Naugatuck, is believed to have killed Southington resident Michelle Barrett, 41.
Police on Sunday responded to 58 Manor Road, where Barrett was found in the backyard. She had suffered a gunshot wound and was dead.
The suspect in her killing, DeSantis, at some point went to the Naugatuck Police Department and shot himself. Police said he was taken to an area hospital. His condition is unclear.
