SOUTHINGTON - A Naugatuck man has pleaded not guilty to an assault at a local motel.

Daniel Akinsyana, 27, appeared Friday in Bristol Superior Court, where he pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges of second-degree assault, interfering with an officer and making a false statement.

Akinsyana was granted a continuance to April 23. His attorney asked that the next court be scheduled on a day after his next hearing on April 10 in Waterbury court, where he faces charges of assault, violation of probation and other offenses. He is on probation for a prior conviction of second-degree assault.

Akinsyana turned himself in on Aug. 19 in connection with an incident on Aug. 7 at Motel 6, at 625 Queen St. Police said he has been accused of striking someone in the head with an ashtray during a dispute there.

Police have not released any more details about the alleged assault.

Akinsyana is being held on $60,000 bond.
